Today I am going to review a Louisiana style seafood restaurant named The Shrimp Lover. The thing that make this restaurant interesting is not a food, but is a unique way of eating.
I have been to this restaurant two times. When I stepped into the restaurant, the staff lead me to the seat and handed me the menu which has only 2 pages. You might start your meal with the “Starter” such as Fried Shrimp, Fried Fish, Chicken pop, and so on. They have the set dishes where you can have a set of rice and seafood that you choose in a reasonable price. Just only 150 baht per set!
The most interesting food is their “Signature” which is “Eat with your hands”. To order the food, there are three steps. First of all, pick seafood. Then, pick flavor. And finally, pick spicy level.
After ordering, the staff put a big white paper on our table. Then, pour the food which came in a plastic bag on the table. And, it was time to use our bare hands to eat the food.
For me, the seafood was fresh and well seasoned. We have tried the signature sauce (Louisiana), garlic butter, and lemon pepper. I liked the signature and lemon pepper.
When ordering, I hesitated between lemon pepper and Thai Seafood Sauce. And the staff was nice. She told me to order one. And for the one that I did not choose, she gave me a cup of sauce to try. Nice! For the Thai Seafood Sauce, it was good, but not tasty (or spicy!) like the Thai Seafood that I had eaten in the Thai restaurant. If you do not like something very spicy, this might be a great choice.
All in all, I loved the fresh seafood, the taste, and the service there. Recommended.
Update: August, 2016
Location & How to get there: Currently this restaurant has only a branch in Bangkok which is located at Gateway, Ekamai. You can go to Gateway by taking BTS and getting off at Ekamai Station. The mall is connected with BTS.
Price: about 200-300 baht per person, depending on what you order.
