Our destination places on day 2 were Porters Ski Area, Lake Lyndon, Castle Hill, Arthur’s Pass National Park, and Otira.
We left the hostel in Springfield in the morning and headed to Porters Ski area. I did not know how to ski, but just wanted to see a ski field once.
But since we did not sleep well last night or for some reasons, we drove pass the ski field!!! Well, it was OK, because we were in New Zealand, not Thailand, and there were many ski fields in New Zealand. I was sure we would see one in this trip, so we did not drive back.
Next destination was Lake Lyndon, we did not drive pass it. Yeah!! But it was just a small lake and the view did not catch my attention much.
Next destination was Castle Hill. I loved the mountain with snow in the background. We spent less than 15 minutes there because it was so cold!
Then, since we did not see the first ski field, we headed to the next ski field which I could not remember the name. Along the way we started seeing snow! It was the first snow in my life!!! The road was slippery; we had to put the chains on tires.
Well, we still did not see the ski field because we needed to take the cable car to go up there and the queue was very long. So, we left this ski field and wait to see the other one in Wanaka.
Then, we headed to Arthur’s Pass National Park. We were excited when we saw the sheep (Well, in the beginning of the trip, seeing sheep was very nice. Then I realized later that in New Zealand it was easy to see sheep than people!). Arthur’s Pass was the place where we spent more time than the first three places… to take photos.
Last destination of the day was Otira, my favorite place of the day. I loved the view both at Otira Valley and Otira Viaduct.
We continued driving to Hokitika where we stayed overnight. The hostel there was much much better than the night before…bigger and cleaner kitchen, also more cooking utensils. When we reached the hostel, we immediately check the heater first! Yeah… this hostel had a heater!! That night, it was so warm; I slept tight!!!
