This was our third day in New Zealand. We started from Hokitika to Lake Ianthe, Franz Josef Glacier, and Fox Glacier. One lake and two glaciers were waiting for us!
We started quite early in the morning since we wanted to see the fog over the lake. Unfortunately, it was not early enough, or maybe there was no fog on that day. Anyway, the water on the lake was flat making a perfect reflection…reflects everything, including us, above it. So, we made a group photo there.
And also individual photos
Everyone got nice photo except me! My head disappeared!! And I realized this later!!! How could my friend do this to me ???
Then, we drove to Franz Josef Glacier. This is an awesome view we saw along the way. I think this is why people love road trip in New Zealand. This kind of view was everywhere. I saw it every day during the trip.
When we arrived, the weather was not so good. It was raining, but glad, it did not rain hard. We needed to walk for a while to see the glacier. We kept walking and the rain kept falling.
Finally I saw the gate, but…there was a guy told us not to go any closer. He said “Spectacular isn’t it? But don’t go any closer!”
So, what I could do was taking photos! And walked back! The rain still kept falling.
Soon, we arrived the second glacier, Fox Glacier. Same, we walked, walked and walked in order to see the glacier. Finally we saw the glacier, but in the distance.
Same, we met the same guy telling us the same thing…“Spectacular isn’t it? But don’t go any closer!”
I did believe him, but some people did not.
After seeing two glaciers in a distance, I really wanted to buy glacier tours to explore the ice caves. But, we did not have time. This is one thing that makes me want to go back to New Zealand.
Since it rained all day long, we got rainbow as a reward. While we drove to our hostel, Fox Glacier Holiday Park, we saw beautiful rainbow over the sky.
