Chatuchak weekend market and The Platinum Fashion Mall are famous for the shoppers. They have several stalls selling cheap goods. If you do not have time to visit both shopping places and want to go to the best one, this blog post might help. Well, I do not give you a concrete answer, but compare both of them in several angles. So, you can choose the one that matches your desire.
Chatuchak is an outdoor market which is really hot especially during the day, while Platinum Mall is an indoor market which is more comfortable to wander around.
Chatuchak has 15,000 stalls dividing into several sections and sois (alleys); it is the biggest market in Thailand. Platinum Mall consists of 3 zones in 2 big buildings. The zones in Platinum Mall are more organized than Chatuchak Weekend Market; it is rare to see several products such as shoes, handbags, and clothings mixed in the same floor. For me, these two shopping places are very big, and one day is not enough to visit every shops.
Chatuchak sells almost everything on earth ranging from clothing, shoes, and handbags to books, pets, plants, ceramics, and foods. Platinum Mall specializes for fashion items such as clothing, shoes, handbags, purses, and so on.
Both shopping places accept bargaining. If you buy more, you will get discount.
Chatuchak is open fully only on weekends. Only some parts of the market are open on weekdays. Platinum Mall is open daily.
You can use both BTS Skytrain and MRT Subway to go to Chatuchak; the closet station to the market is Kampheng Phet MRT Station.
Platinam Mall cannot be reached by both BTS Skytrain and MRT Subway. The closet station to the mall is Chidlom station or Ratchathewi station. From those stations, you have to walk around 15-20 minutes or take a taxi.
