Many tourists especially backpackers choose to stay at Khao San Road, a short street that is full with pubs, bars, and restaurants, and is close to historical sites such as Wat Phra Kaew and The Grand Palace.
But, Khao San Road does not have any express train. So, it is a bit more difficult to get to many shopping malls which mostly located close to BTS Skytrain. In this post, I will share you options to get you from Khao San Road to MBK Center, a popular shopping place in Bangkok.
The distance between Khao San Road and MBK Center is about 5-6 kilometers. It takes around half an hour or more depending on the traffic congestion and the taxi fare should cost around 60 baht or more.
You can take bus no. 15 and 47 in front of The Government Lottery Office, Ratchadamnoen Road. They run to MBK and National Stadium. But if you are not familiar with areas in Bangkok, I do not recommend this option.
Take the boat at Saen Saeb Canal (Khlong Saen Saeb)
This option is more adventure and fun (or maybe not!). First of all, you have to walk around 20 minutes from Khao San Raod to Phanfa Leelard Pier which is located behind the Mahakan Fort, at the end of Ratchadamnoen Road. Click the map in this link to see how to walk.
From there, you can take the boat which runs along the Saen Saeb Canal. Next step is to get off at Sa Phan Hua Chang Pier (or Hua Chang Bridge). If you cannot remember the name of the pier, just tell the ticket collector that ‘MBK’ or ‘Siam’. The fare is about 10-20 baht.
Then, after getting off the boat, walk up to the street and you will see BTS’s railway above your head. Take a 5-minute walk; you will see MBK at the corner of the intersection. Click the map in this link to see how to walk.
Hope this information helps.
