If you are planning to visit The Netherlands, I would recommend you to go there during spring because it is the season that tulips are flowering and Keukenhof, the “garden of Europe” is open.
And, in order not to miss the experience at the Keukenhof, it is better to check the opening dates; Usually the garden is open between mid of March to mid of May every year (only 2 months a year!).
At the garden, I saw millions of tulips and other flowers as entering the garden. The garden was quite big and needed a bit of walking. I was there quite a bit early (end of March); some flowers were not yet in bloom. And even if I am not knowledgeable about the flower, I quite enjoyed walking and seeing the flower bed designs in the park and it was a great day out of Amsterdam. If you are flower lovers or lens lovers, this is your place.
Keukenhof is located at a small town named Lisse, The Netherlands. It took around an hour or so from Amsterdam to be there. If you love windmill there, do not forget to visit Zaanse Schans, another tourist attraction, to see the lovely windmills. I am sure it would be another great day out of Amsterdam too.
