20 Must-Buy snacks from Thailand

When traveling to a country, many tourists love buying snack/food items back to their friends and family. I am one of them; I usually do some research about the popular snack for a country that I am going to visit and the places that I can buy. So, my blog post today is to recommend you 20 must-buy snack/food items from Thailand. You can buy them at convenience stores like 7-11 or supermarket in a shopping mall near your hotel/ hostel. Well if you want to buy all items below, I recommend you to visit Big C Rajdamri (Opposite Central World). I took all photos there.

1. Tao Kae Noi Seaweed

Tao Kae Noi Seaweed is popular tasty seaweed snacks that can be found easily in Bangkok. It offers crispy seaweed, grilled seaweed, roasted seaweed, tempura sea weed and much more with several flavors such as seafood, tom yum, wasabi, and so on.

2. Bento Seafood Snack Squid&Fish

Bento is popular seafood snacks in Thailand. They have both squid and fish. For me, the squid ones are more famous. These snacks offer a unique spicy taste. You can expect to find them in several flavors such as Hot & Spicy,  Sweet & Spicy, Thai Chili Sauce, and so on.

3. Squidy

Squidy is a baked squid/ cuttlefish. It is crispy and tasty. I have been eating it on and off for more than 20 years. If you love crispy squid, don’t miss it.

4. Taro

Taro is a fish-based snack which is delicious and nutritious. I love this one because my hand is not sticky when eating it. Besides, if you like the crispy version, you can You can heat it with microwave before eating it.

5. Hanami

Hanami is popular prawn crackers in Thailand. There are several flavors such as original, hot chilli, garlic&pepper, Nori seaweed, and so on. I love the original one!

6. Carada

Carada is a popular rice ball snack since I was in high school. The green one is Nori Seaweed flavoured, while the red one is cuttlefish flavoured.

7. Koh Kae

Koh Kae is  a popular peanut snack in Thailand. Its peanut is covered with a crunchy shell. You can expect to find it in various flavours such as coconut cream (original), Nori wasabi, chicken, shrimp, and so on. 

8. Koala’s March

Koala’s March is popular crunchy biscuits in Asia. Usually its packaging is so cute and attractive. In Thailand, we have Koala’s March with mango flavoured. If you love Koala’s March and mango, give it a try.

9. Lay’s

Lay’s is potato chips. You might know it because it is sold around the world. This potato chip brand is popular in Thailand. If you love the potato chip, you might try the “Thai” traditional taste that is difficult or cannot find in other countries such as Tom Yum, Thai Chili Paste, Thai Seafood Dip, and so on.

10. Tasto

Tasto is a potato chip brand in Thailand. Tasto also offers both international and traditional flavored such as crab curry. I recommend you to try the traditional flavored ones.

11. Manora

Manora is fried fish and shrimp chips. Now they have fried pumpkin chips and fried taro chips and so on. I love the fish and shrimp ones. 

12. Instant noodle

The most popular instant noodle brands in Thailand are Mama and Wai Wai. You can find them easily in any convenience store or mom and pop shop. Both Mama and Wai Wai offers various flavours. For Mama, I do recommend Shrimp Tom Yum Flavour and Minced Pork Flavour which are the original ones that I have seen since I was young. For Wai Wai, I do recommend the oriental style (this one is good for stir-fried noodles) and Minced Pork Tom Yum Flavour.

13. Vacuum-freeze dried durian

Durian or “King of Fruits” is a popular fruit throughout Southeast Asia. The Vacuum-freeze dried durian is a snack that after you start eating it, it is hard to stop. If you love Durian, give it a try.

14. Thai Desserts Cooking Sets

If you love Thai desserts, try its cooking sets. I recommend “Lobo” brand. There are several desserts available.

15. Lobo –  ready-to-eat meals made

Nowadays there are many ready-to-eat meals made brands in supermarket in Bangkok, but Lobo is still my favorite one. I usually not use it when I’m in Thailand. But I bought many of them when I had to go abroad for study. For me, Tom Yum Paste and Green Curry Paste are a-must. If you love Thai food, why not try cooking them at home?

16. Dried Banana

Dried Banana is another popular dried fruit that can be easily found all over Thailand. Try it, especially you love banana.

17. Soft Dried Mango

Soft Dried Mango is another dried fruit. This one is not that popular. But if you love mango, try it.

18. Sweetened coconut strips

Sweetened coconut strips is quite popular. Well, if it is possible, test it before you buy. Some brands are very sweet. If you love coconut, try it in another form.

19. Dried seafood snacks

Dried seafood snacks are also popular in Thailand. Usually there are several products shown in one booth. I usually try it, before I buy. 

20. Kalamare

Kalamare is a Thai sticky sweet dessert in dried Leaf sheath. This dessert, I also try it before buy it to ensure that it is the fresh one.
