A road trip to South Island New Zealand, Part9

Queenstown is a big city and full with activities. It was the only city that I saw people more than sheep. I was not excited with this town much. I personally do not like a big city, since I was born and live in the hustle and bustle city like Bangkok for many years. Well, after we left the city center I found out that the lakes and viewpoints in Queenstown were really beautiful.

Our plan on that day was to travel from Queenstown to Mt. Cook. Along the way, we stopped at Deer Park Heights, Shotover River, Lake Wakatipu, Lake Hayes, Kawarau Bridge Bungy (Bungee), Lindis Pass, and Salmon Farm.

After having breakfast, we left the hostel in Queenstown, and went to Deer Park Heights. It was claimed to be the place providing the most stunning views of Queenstown. We drove around in order to find the way to go up there, but we could not find it. I thought we spent more than half an hour to find Deer Park Heights. We asked a student who was walking around and he told us how to reach Dear Park Heights. Still, we could not find it. Since there was so much snow and also the path was steep, finally we gave up.

We realized later after we came back to Bangkok that Deer Park Heights has been permanently closed since 2009. Umm…that’s why we could not find it…Haha…Wait, why did not that student tell us? Or he did not know?

After giving up with Deer Park Heights, we went to Shotover River to see the jet boat ride. The view was spectacular, but it was so cold on that morning. I had no idea how people could survive on the boat. It was one of the activities that I wanted to try, of course, in summer in New Zealand.

Next destination was Lake Wakatipu. Lakes together with mountains and trees on background in New Zealand have never disappointed me.

Then, we went to Lake Hayes. For me, this lake was much more beautiful than Lake Wakatipu. It was one of my favorite lakes in New Zealand. Even if we already saw many lakes in New Zealand, this lake made me stunned.

Next Destination was Kawarau Bridge Bungy (Bungee). It is the bridge over Kawarau River where people do bungee jump. When we were there, the girl was about to jump. Ahhh…I wanted to try.

Then, we stopped again at Lindis Pass, a mountain pass. I had seen the photos of this place before, but on that day the view was totally different from the photos I had seen from websites. All mountains were covered by snow. Well, I thought snow made it much more beautiful!

We stopped again at Salmon Farm. We decided to buy salmon for our dinner.

When we reached hostel in Mt. Cook and had dinner, we then realized that we should have bought more! It was really fresh!!! (It is quite difficult to find fresh salmon in Bangkok)
