BTS is Bangkok elevated rapid transit system, which is known as Skytrain. With BTS, you can go to the major areas in Bangkok without facing traffic jams. Currently BTS has 2 main lines: Sukhumvit line and Silom line.
Ekkamai is a BTS station on Sukhumvit line that is located at Sukhumvit Soi 63 (Soi Ekkamai) on Sukhumvit Road, Khlong Toei District.
Here is the map for the area around Ekkamai BTS Station. I have got this map from BTS official website. The area map for the other BTS stations can be found here. To enlarge, click at the map.
What to see around BTS Ekkamai Station
Let’s look at the map.
Ekkamai area (Sukhumvit Soi 63) is very similar to Thong Lo area (Sukhumvit Soi 55). It is considered as a rich neighborhood in Bangkok. In Soi Ekkamai, there are many upscale pubs, bars, and restaurants. Ekkamai is a long soi and many people usually go there by private car.
You can see from the map that this BTS station has skybridges connecting to two shopping malls: Gateway Ekkamai, a Japanese concept mall, and Major Cineplex Sukhumvit, a modest mall offering cinema, bowling, and karaoke.
Just a few steps from the BTS station, you will see Eastern bus terminal, a bus terminal that leads you to eastern part of Thailand.
Next to the bus terminal is Science Center for Education (Bangkok Planetarium), a science museum which has an aquarium, a planetarium, and exhibitions for children. I went to this place many years ago. The equipments and machines were not well-maintained. I am not sure about now.
If you happen to be around there, I recommend you to try the food at Sabai Jai Keb Tawan, an independent Thai Isan Restaurant. This restaurant is in a walking distance from the station.
Hope this information helps. Enjoy traveling Bangkok!
