Gateway Ekamai is a shopping mall which has a great location. The mall is located on Sukhumvit Road and has direct access bridge from the BTS Skytrain station to the mall. The aim of the mall is to offer an ambience of Japanese lifestyle to shoppers.
Well, when I stepped into the mall, I was surprised that I did not see any ‘Japanese’ thing. At the ground floor, there are restaurant chains, but all of them are not Japanese restaurants and can be found in other shopping malls around.
But when I went up one level, I started seeing ‘Japanese’ things. At M floor, there are many Japanese restaurants and also a Japanese drug store, Tsuruha. At this floor, you will see lanterns, bamboo, and other Japanese things.
Then, the Japanese ambience disappeared, when I went up and up.
I then found a food court named Okini. The name of the food court is Japanese, but the stalls do not sell much Japanese food.
The floor directory signs and the signs in the toilet at this mall have Japanese language. But, after visiting this mall, I would say that M floor is the only floor that has Japanese theme, but the other floors are like other shopping malls. And, I do not think this is a Japanese lifestyle shopping mall.
