Green curry – kang keaw wan – แกงเขียวหวาน
I don’t cook; I don’t even know how to cook. So, if I say I can make it, that dish is definitely easy to make. And I say I can make green curry.
When I lived abroad and had to cook for foreign friends, kang keaw wan or green curry was my first choice because it is healthy, tasty, and easy to make. The main ingredients are coconut milk, green curry paste, sugar, fish sauce, Thai basil leaves, vegetables, and meats. Meats could be chicken, pork, or shrimp. For vegetables, I could not find Thai eggplants, so usually I put European eggplants and zucchinis instead. The first and most important step is to find a good paste. Then everything will be fine. The green curry recipe can be found easily on the internet. Here is my green curry shrimp. Not bad, isn’t it?
Anyway, now I am in Bangkok. Green curry is the dish that you can find easily on the streets and also in restaurants. No need to cook by myself. The photo below is the green curry from Yam Saap restaurant.
Green curry is one of the popular Thai dishes. You can try making it when you are home (I believe that it would be better than mine). And, try eating the traditional one when you are in Thailand.
P.S. You might replace coconut milk with milk to make your green curry healthier. It was recommended by one Thai food TV show that I watched some days ago.
