Pattaya is a Thailand popular beach resort town which is located on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand in Chonburi Province. This town is one of the popular destinations for tourists and also Bangkok residents.
How far is Pattaya from Bangkok?
Pattaya is about 120 kilometres southeast of Bangkok. It takes around 2 hours from Bangkok to Pattaya or vice versa. And, it could take a bit longer during weekends or long holidays.
How to get from Bangkok to Pattaya?
For me, the best way to travel between these two places is by private car. Two-hour drive is not too long to drive and I can stop by anywhere I want. Besides, some tourist attraction places in Pattaya could not reach by public transportation modes. If you are tourist, you might consider renting a car, or a van.
Since Pattaya is a touristy place, so from Bangkok there are many public transportation modes available to get to this town.
Bus: From Bangkok, you can take the bus to Pattaya at
Eastern Bus Terminal (Ekamai Bus Terminal) – the bus leaves every 30-40 minutes
Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai Bus Terminal) – the bus leaves every hour or one hour and a half
Northern and Northeastern Bus Terminal (Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal) – the bus leaves every 30-40 minutes
Just choose the one that is convenient for you. The ticket costs around 100-130 baht. Besides, At Suvarnabhumi Airport there are also buses leaving for Pattaya. So, if you are bored with the capital city of Thailand, you can escape Bangkok immediately after you hit Bangkok.
Train: as you may know, Thai train is very slow and always delay. From Bangkok to Pattaya there is only a train a day and usually it takes around 3-4 hours to reach the destination. The ticket costs around 30-150 baht depending on type of seat.
Van or minibus: Nowadays there are many van hubs that you can take a van to go to Pattaya and also other provinces in Thailand. The most popular one is at Victory Monument. You can see the spots that you can take the van to Pattaya here.
