How to get from Khaosan road to Eastern Bus Terminal (Ekamai)

If you are staying at Khao San Road, a popular place to stay in Bangkok for backpackers, and you want to go to Eastern Bus Terminal to take a bus to eastern Thailand such as Pattaya, Koh Samed, Koh Chang, and Koh Kood but you do not know how to go, you have to the right place; in this post, I would share you how to get to Eastern Bus Terminal from Khao San road.

Eastern Bus Terminal or Ekamai Bus Terminal is located on Sukhumvit Road, and can be reached by BTS. The bus terminal is just a few minutes’ walk from Ekamai BTS Station. So, if the place that you stay is close to BTS Skytrain, to go to the bus terminal is very easy. You can see how the bus station looks like in my review here.

Anyway, Khao San Road does not connect to BTS Skytrain (nor MRT Subway). So, to go to the bus terminal, it might take a little more time and here are the available options.

In Bangkok taxi can take you to anywhere and taxi fare is relatively cheap comparing to other cities in the world. The distance between Khao San Road and the terminal is about 20 kilometers. It should take around 45 minutes and should cost around 150 baht, if the traffic is not really bad (it could take more time and money during peak hours such as 06.00-10.00, 17.00-21.00). Anyway, if you are travelling during peak hours, I do recommend you to try not to take this option. There are chances that you will be caught in the traffic jams.

You can take bus no. 2, and 511 in front of The Government Lottery Office, Ratchadamnoen Road to the bus terminal. Anyway, you should be aware that some buses stop at Pratunam. So, you should get off at Ratchathewi BTS Skytrain (before you reach Pratunam) to continue with the BTS skytrain. For tourists, I do not recommend this option, because you can get lost easily.

BTS Skytrain

From Khao San Road, there are several ways to get to the BTS Skytrain. You can read here for the options. In short, for tourists, if you are afraid of getting lost, I do recommend you to take the Chao Phraya express boat from Phra Arthit Pier (around 800 meters, 10-minute walk from Khao San Road) to Sathorn Pier, which is only a minute walk to Saphan Taksin BTS Station. Then, take BTS Skytrain and get off at Ekamai Station.

Hope this information helps
