Sukhumvit is a very long road. It starts in Bangkok and passes several provinces in Eastern Thailand. So, don’t be surprised, if you see this road when going to the east. In Bangkok Sukhumvit is a commercial road where you can see shopping malls, hotels, pubs, restaurants, coffee café and so on.
The Grand Palace is one of the main attractions in Bangkok. The palace is composed of several beautiful buildings. It is an official residence of the Kings and is home to Wat Phra Kaew and The Emerald Buddha.
In this post, I will share you how to get from Sukhumvit Road to The Grand Palace. Many parts of Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok connect with BTS Skytrain (some parts also connect with MRT Subway), while The Grand Palace does not connect with any rapid transportation system. So, here is my recommendation of how to reach The Grand Palace from Sukhumvit Road.
BTS + Chao Phraya Express Boat
Take the BTS Skytrain from the station that is close to where you are to Saphan Taksin Station (You have to change from Sukhumvit Line to Silom Line at Siam Station). From there, you have to walk to Sathorn Pier where you can take Chao Phraya Express Boat to The Grand Palace. Get on the boat at Sathorn Pier and get off the boat at Tha Chang Pier. Then, take a short walk; you will see The Grand Palace.
Taxi is the easiest way to wander around Bangkok, and the taxi fare here is very cheap comparing to other big cities in the world. Well, this is Bangkok, so please bear in mind when traveling with taxi that you might get caught in the traffic. I cannot tell you the fare and also the time will take between Sukhumvit and The Grand Palace because it depends on where in the Sukhumvit Road you start and also the traffic conditions.
If you come in group taking taxi might be cheaper. However, for me I prefer BTS together with Chao Phraya Express Boat. I do love the view along the river.
Hope this information helps.
