The Grand Palace is an official residence of the kings and nowadays several royal ceremonies are held here.
Wat Arun or the temple of dawn is a Buddhist temple that had existed since Ayutthaya Kingdom and is known as one of the Thailand’s landmark.
Both The Grand Palace and Wat Arun are the top tourist attractions in Bangkok. And, they are located not far from each other. You can visit them in the same day.
Since Wat Arun is located on the other side of the bank of Chao Praya River, to get to Wat Arun from The Grand Palace, first of all, you have to walk to Tha Tien. Then, take a cross ferry to Tha Wat Arun. That’s it. The challenge is to find the right gate because The Grand Palace is huge and has several gates. The easiest way is to ask for advice from the officers around.
If you plan to visit both The Grand Palace and Wat Arun, I have two recommendations. The first one is start your day early and go to The Grand Palace first. Be there before group tours, so you do not have to wait in the long queue. The second one is visit Wat Pho or the Temple of the Reclining Buddha. The temple is right next to Tha Tien.
