The Grand Palace is one of the top tourist attractions in Bangkok. If you are a first time traveler to Bangkok, I am sure that this place must be included in your itinerary. From wikipedia, there are more than 8 million people visiting the palace in 2006.
The Grand Palace is located at Na Phra Lan Road, Phra Nakhon District which is the historic centre of Bangkok. It is an official residence of the kings. Many royal ceremonies are held here and the temple of the Emerald Buddha is also located within the grounds of the Grand Palace.
As you may know, Bangkok has two mains rapid transportation systems which are BTS Skytrain and MRT Subway. Unfortunately these two systems do not pass the historical places in Bangkok. Well, there are many options to reach Bangkok’s Grand Palace.
To get to The Grand Palace, the easiest option is to take a cab or tuk tuk. For a cab, find the metered one. For a tuk tuk, when asking the driver for a fare, try bargaining because he might overcharge you and you might end up paying more than taking a cab.
The cheaper option is using public transportation system. There are buses that passes through the palace such as 1, 3, 8, 15, 25, 53, and so on. Well, if you do not know Thai language and are not familiar with the area, I do not recommend this option. On the bus, there is no an English sign.
My recommendation is to get to The Grand Palace by BTS Skytrain and Express Boat. Take BTS and get off at Saphan Taksin Station Exit 2. Sathorn Pier is at this station. Take Chao Phraya Express Boat at the pier. Then get off at Tha Chang (N9). You will see The Grand Palace on the right.
Enjoy traveling Bangkok!
