Kanchanaburi is the largest province in the west of Thailand consisting of 13 districts (Amphur). From Bangkok to Kanchanaburi it could take only 2 hours or up to 6 hours, depending on where you want to go. This province has several natural tourist attractions such as waterfalls and national parks, caves, tranquil rivers. It is a place where the Kwae Yai and Kwae Noi rivers merge and form the Mae Klong river. Besides, the place is also full with history related to World War II.
If you want to get away from Bangkok, Kanchanaburi might be your choice. I can’t believe that I’ve been to this province unintentionally 4 times!!! Two of them were company business trips, while the rest of them were holidays with friends. Well…actually I think more than 4, but one day trip does not count.
June, 2005 I went to Kanchanaburi because my friend just wanted to stay at Home PhuToey Resort. That’s it! No more reason. This resort’s located in Amphur Sai Yok offering greenery nature and amazing views of River Kwai. I didn’t prepare anything and didn’t even know that there were many attractions in this province that worth visiting. So, we didn’t go anywhere just spent time in the resort. Bored? For me, of course not! The resort was nice and good for relaxing. And there were many activities providing fun for all ages.
January, 2006 This time was a company business trip. I couldn’t remember much. I couldn’t even remember where I stayed. Only remember that I was at Saphan Mae Nam Kwae or the iron bridge across the Kwai Yai River. Damn, what a bad memory I have!
August 2007 This time was also a company business trip. We stayed at Pungwaan Resort&Spa, AmphurMueang Kanchanaburi. I had a chance to visit Prommitr Film Studio, a shooting location for the Thai historical drama movie named “The Legend of King Naresuan”. I heard that it took more than 4 years to build this location. I also had a chance to dress in Thai traditional cloth and have nice photos.
July 2009 This time I stayed at Yoko RiverKwai Hotel&Resort , Amphur Sai Yok for two nights in a raft room floating on the river which was so great!! I rode an elephant; it was my first time riding on top of an elephant, but I was not feel good. Instead, I sympathized with these elephants that had to carry humans which their spines are not made to support. I know many people want to do the elephant treks, but for me I promised myself not to do it again.
Seems four times is not enough. I’ve not visited so many important places. One of the districts that I would like to visit is Sangklaburi, the most far from Bangkok. This district borders to Myanmar where you will see both local Thais and Burmese. See the picture below which were taken by my brother and you will know why I want to go there.
