Today I would like to recommend you guys a library in Bangkok. This library has more than 20,000 English books. If you are living in Bangkok, want to read English books, and do not want to buy them, I recommend you Neilson Hays Library.
I admit that I did not know that this library existed in Bangkok until I watched the short film named “The Library” that used this library as a main location. I’m truly impressed by the film and that’s why I tried to find where the film was shooted.
Watch the film, if you want. English, Vietnamese, and Indonesian subtitles are available.
This short film is a romantic film, and the story behind the library building is also romantic. This building was built for the memorial of the love that Dr. Heyward Hays had for his wife, Jennie Neilson Hays. The building was designed by the Italian architecture. From the photos, you will clearly see that the entire library was built in European style. Usually the library building in Bangkok is not attractive like this, so I think this library is the most beautiful library in Bangkok. Well, this library is not that beautiful like some libraries I have seen when I was abroad (in Sydney and Melbourne). So, if you want to go there just to see the building architecture, do not set high expectation.
This library is a non-profit organization. Art galleries, family events, exhibitions, workshops, and concerts are hosted here. You can see the detail and membership fee at its website.
