Bangkok’s Chinatown or Yaowarat is one of the great areas to find delicious food in Bangkok. This area is very famous for street food at night. Well, during the day, in this area there are also many great restaurants that are worth trying. And today I am going to recommend you one of them.
It is a restaurant that local usually calls ‘Egg noodles with crab at Odeon Circle’. We call like this because the most popular dish is egg noodles with crab and the restaurant is located very close to Odean Circle or the gate of Chinatown.
I have heard many people talking about this restaurant many times, but I just had a chance to try it last week. Odean Noodle Restaurant is one of the popular restaurants in Chinatown area for local, but I think not so many tourists know this restaurant. When I was there, I did not see any tourists in the restaurant (but I saw them wandering around this area).
If you walk from Odeon Circle, you will see this sign and a stall like in the photo. This is the cooking area where the staffs prepare food for the customers.
Next to the stall, you will see the air-conditioned room which is the eating area. Just walk into the room, find the seat, and then order the food.
I have heard that this restaurant has been opened for more than 40 years. In the restaurant, you will see that the wall is decorated by the photos of the food and also the photos of the restaurant when it was featured in the local newspapers.
The menu has two languages: Thai and English together with photos of the food, so you do not have to worry about how to order the food. Since I was there alone, I ordered only an ordinary noodle dish.
Let’s talk about the taste, it was delicious. I liked the egg noodles, the crab meat and also the wonton. I plan to go to this restaurant again with friends or my mother because I want to try other dishes. If you go there, you might order ‘fried prawn wonton’; I have heard that it is very good.
Update: April, 2015
Location & How to get there: 726 Charoen Krung Road, Samphanthawong District, Bangkok. The restaurant is close to the Odeon Circle and Wat Traimit. From the circle, walk on Charoen Krung Road around 200 meters; you will see the restaurant.
Opening Hours: Everyday from 8.30 to 20.00 except the second and the last Tuesdays of the month (the restaurant closes only twice a month)
Price: It can be less than 100 baht if you order the ordinary noodle. But, you can expect to pay around 100 to 300 baht if you order a crab claw or an appetizer such as fried prawn wonton, dim sum, fish sausage, and so on.
