Photo Name: I was in jail
When: December, 2011
Where: Marseille, France
This photo was taken at Château d’If, the former fortress and prison which is located on the island and is now open to the public. It is one of the many places in the world that became popular because of the novel book, The Count of Monte Cristo.
Some touristy islands in southern Thailand were also prisons before. So, I was not surprised when I knew that Château d’If was a prison before. But what I could not believe is the places that were considered far away and difficult to escape could turn to be the tourist destinations. The prisons in the past became paradise islands in the present. Like people always say: Time changes; things change.
