If you are going to visit Bangkok and doing a research, I am sure you will know that this city offers BTS Skytrain, an effective transportation mode that brings you to the major parts of the city. But do you know we have Ratchaprasong Skywalk that connects with BTS Skytrain and leads you to the shopping world?
If you want to explore the best shopping area in Bangkok by foot, I recommend you to have a walk on Ratchaprasong Skywalk. With this Skywalk, you can reach several shopping malls without walking on busy streets.
You can start a walking trip by getting off the BTS Skytrain at Chidlom Station. This station connects to Central Chidlom, a luxury shopping mall under Central Group.
And after walking on the skywalk for 2 minutes, you will see Amarin Plaza, another shopping mall, on you left hand side.
A minute walk later, you will see Thao Mahaprom Shrine or Erawan Shrine at the corner of Ratchaprasong Intersection. This shrine is always crowded with both local and tourists visiting and praying all the time. And on your right hand side, you will see a shopping mall named Gaysorn Plaza.
After passing Ratchaprasong Intersection, you will see Central World, a very huge and luxury shopping mall under Central Group, on your right hand side.
In front of this shopping mall, you will see Trimurti Shrine and Ganesha Shrine. People are praying at the first shrine for true love and the second shrine for success and accomplishment.
If you keep walking on the skywalk for a minute or two, you will see Wat Pathum Wanaram, a temple which is located in the middle of shopping malls. From the skywalk, you will see the chapels, but if you walk inside, you will see the tropical garden.
Then, after the next two-minute walk, you are about to reach Siam BTS Station. At this station, on your left hand side, it is a big shopping area that we call Siam Square, and you will see a big shopping mall named Siam Square One.
On you right hand side, you will see Siam Paragon, another huge and luxury shopping mall under The Mall Group.
This is the end of Ratchaprasong Skywalk. But, you can continue your walking trip. At Siam Paragon, there is a big square connecting you to Siam Center, which has a bridge connecting you to Siam Discovery. And from Siam Discovery, there is a bridge connecting you to National Stadium BTS Station, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, and MBK Center.
This area offers you a great shopping experience throughout the year, and also turns to be the most beautiful area in Bangkok during Christmas and New Year. If you visit Bangkok on December and January, I do recommend you to have a walk there. You can see my walking trip at this area in New Year 2015 here.
