Taipei 101 or Taipei Financial Center is the used-to-be tallest building in the world (It is the tallest building in the world from 2004-2010). It is one of the landmarks of Taiwan. This tower has 101 floors above the ground and 5 floors under the ground. You will see this modern building here and there, when you travel around the city.
The first five floors of this building is the high-end shopping mall. You can buy a ticket at the fifth floor. I did not walk around the mall; I went ahead to buy a ticket because I wanted to see Taipei from the top. Well, I just realized that with this ticket I could only access the 88th-91st floor. The higher floors were not open to the public. 🙁
During heading up to the top, I was excited with the high-speed elevator. In order to prove its speed, there was a screen showing the current floor, its height, its speed, and timer. Only 37 seconds this elevator took me from 5th floor to 89th floor (sorry for the last photo, but I have to use it to show you that it is really only 37 seconds!).
Because of the weather, from the indoor observatory deck this is what I saw, the city in the fog. 🙁
On these floors, you can learn the technology and the history of this building.
Taipei 101 building was designed to resist storms and earthquakes and you will see the giant pendulum which helps prevent the building from damage.
Then, I took the stairs to outdoor observatory deck on 91st floor and this is what I saw. It was higher, but the view was not better. 🙁 🙁 🙁
All in all, I was quite disappointed with the weather. Well, I believe that if the sky is clear, the view up there will be much more beautiful. Besides, the building views at night that I saw from the internet are very nice. If you go to Taiwan and want to visit Taipei 101, I would recommend you to go at night and check the weather first.
