TCDC is a short name of Thailand Creative & Design Center which was established in Bangkok in 2004 and in Chiang Mai in 2013. It is a place for Thai designers or creative entrepreneurs.
Yesterday I went to the one in Bangkok. The size of this learning center is not that big. When you step inside, you will first see a shop on your left hand side. Most of the products are creative products.
Then, when you walk a little bit, you will see the exhibition gallery 1 and 2. On the day that I went there, there was an exhibition named “What is design?” in gallery 1 and “The Chili Business” in gallery 2.
Besides, around the lobby area there was one more exhibition named “Service Design for public transportation”.
All exhibitions were conducted in English and Thai. The flyers were available at the reception.
Behind the lobby area, you can walk to the lounge and library. If you live in Bangkok and are interested in design, architecture, or art books, you can apply for TCDC membership.
For me, I think it is a good idea to have a place like this in the shopping mall. Instead of just only going there for shopping, we can learn something in the mall too.
Update: June 2014
Location: 6th floor, The Emporium shopping complex, Sukhumvit Soi 24.
How to get there: The easiest way to go there for me is to get off from skytrain (BTS) at Phrom Phong station. Then, take exit 2. The shopping complex’s entrance is connected to the BTS.
Entrance fee: Free, but they charge for some activities. When I went there, all the exhibitions were free. You can check the past, current, and upcoming exhibitions and workshops at its official website.
Opening Hours: Tuesdays to Sundays from 10:30 to 21:00
