Bangkok is a big city that offers several activities to both locals and visitors. However, many activities are outdoor activities which cannot be done on a rainy day. Besides, in Bangkok when it rains, usually it rains hard. So, it is difficult to go outside. Many people who live in Bangkok choose to stay at home and take a rest instead of going outside. Well, I do understand a tourist. Who else want to spend time all day in a hotel/ hostel during vacation?
If you really want to go outside, travel by BTS Skytrain or MRT Subway is recommended. The rain usually causes massive traffic jams. In this post, I intend to share you activities that you can do in Bangkok when it rains. And all of them can be reached by BTS or MRT.
Go to shopping malls
There are many shopping malls located along the BTS and MRT lines. Usually shopping malls in Bangkok are open daily from 10.00 to 22.00. So, if it rains hard, you just go there, enjoy shopping, and have a delicious meal. You can go to huge malls such as Siam Paragon or Central World which offer more activities to customers. At Siam Paragon, you can spend time with your kids at Siam Ocean World which is located on B1-B2 floor. At Central World, your kids can enjoy ice skating. Or you can go to Terminal21, a theme shopping mall where you can enjoy taking photos while wandering in the mall.
See a movie
You can find cinema in almost shopping malls in Bangkok. It is usually located at the top floor of the shopping malls and offers you both typical and VIP tickets. For the VIP option, you can expect a reclining chair, big sofa, blanket, or the waiters serving popcorn to your seat. The prices vary wildly depending on the movie, type of the theater, day of the week, type of seat, and so on. For the typical one, you can get the ticket at US$7 or less.

TCDC (Thailand Creative & Design Center) organizes interesting exhibitions regularly. This learning center is located at 6th floor, The Emporium Shopping Complex. You can go there by getting off BTS Skytrain at Phrom Phong Station. More detail of this place can be found here and you can check the current exhibition here.

Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) is the biggest art gallery in Bangkok. You can expect to see both Thai and international art works in this nine-storey building. BACC is located at Pathumwan Intersection. You can go there by getting off BTS Skytrain at National Stadium Station. Have a massage or spa treatment
Thai massage is well-known around the world. Getting massage here is one of the must-do activities for many tourists and luckily this activity can be done even on a rainy day. Nowadays usually many hotels have an in-house spa, so you can enjoy massage without going outside. If your hotel does not have this service, finding massage shops on street are very easy nowadays.
